MOVIE DIRECT SOURCE FTP. HELP PLEASE

Can somebody help me?? I want to use my movie source that I have hosted on an FTP. When I upload the movie, I indicate "direct source" and write the path of my ftp, like this:
"ftp: // myuser: mypass @ host: 21 / namemovie ....
when I do the test:
I see that in some mobile apps or in VLC if it works for me ... but on smart tv or other apps it doesn't work for me. Anyone else has happened? Does anyone know how it should be done? Thank you very much for the help

thank you very much urgodfather. I have read it all, but I see that there are 3 different ways or 3 purposes ... which one should I use? my purpose is to use a hard disk connected to my router configured the ftp, to use it as a direct source.

Don’t use ftp. Use nfs or sftp (ftp over ssh).
