I have used the search facility but cannot find anything so here goes, does anyone have an idiots guide to APK editing?

No such thing mate, there's so much which can be done within an app so all depends on what your trying to achieve...

Sorry maybe I should have been clearer, it is to add my dns/logo to the stripped down smarters app posted yesterday

Theres instructions in the post buddy... Failing that images are usually in the drawable folder, app logo is in the mipmap folders and search for DNS and it will probably show you where it needs to be edited.

I havnt seen the thread you're following but I'm assuming that's for your service dns
You need your dns and port
Example

http://minttvhosting.ddns.me:8080
