FIRST: history -c
SECOND: history -w
THIRD AND FINAL: echo "" > ~/.bash_history && history -c && exit

Type in the terminal

FIRST: history -c
SECOND: history -w
THIRD AND FINAL: echo "" > ~/.bash_history && history -c && exit

No need three. just one command and done.

cat /dev/null > ~/.bash_history && history -c && exit
