It be a long 10 year project but is finally picking up steam. Google, Apple, NF, Hulu have already signed on. AV1 is a powerful codec compression with huge benefits. During the CES show...AV1 demo a 4k video same to a user with AV1 compatible device. Zero drop in quality was one thing...but being able to stream 4k at under 10mbps will change so many things...Thats nearly a 60% drop in band needed w/o need for transcoding. One small catch. Most newer Smart TV and Boxes are compatible, but others will need to upgrade. Keep and eye on this one!!!!

The problem i think, will be the resources needed to Transcode a 4k raw stream to AV1 codec.
Same as H264 to H265, so much resource consuming.
