Here is an easy way to connect mag via ssh.
I show you how to connect in Linux pc.

The following works with all mag devices (250,254,322,420,etc..)

We must find the ip address of the mag. For this we have 3 choices.

Then run the command

That's all. We are now see all settings and change everything we want.

With command

With this way also, we can unlock the hidden portals with the following command

All good but this is for this with have standard SSH port.
This with have nonstandard port there is no password.

Yes, you are right. But if you have the following error
port 22: Connection refused
and you can not connect, i have a solution in the end. I have tested over 20 different mag devices and it works. :)

So I'm getting the error
Code:

What is the solution?

If with the above way doesn't work, then you have 2 choises.

1) Try to scan for other open ports, you can do with command (replace X.XXX with corresponding your IP)
nmap -sT -p- 192.168.X.XXX

2) You can try to install the firmware again. Then try to ssh connect again.
Use USB to install firmware from "System settings menu"

OK, I scanned and found the open port.
I was then able to connect using this cmd (in my case):-

However, the default password does not work :(
Is there another common password in use?

Would loading a different firmware give rise to a different (hopefully default) password?

I think this is little difficult. If your custom firmware has different root pass, you can not connect without pass.
The only way is to install original firmware, where has default pass, but i think you loose some settings, like portal url, etc.

The firmware currently on the box was a downgrade= > 2.20.10r2-322

I thought this was an original Informir firmware?
What version would you recommend?

I've now loaded the latest official Informir firware 2.20.11-322.

I can connect with SSH still but the default password is not accepted.
"Permission denied, please try again."

What firmware for the 322 uses the default password?

You must download from here

OK. That worked. :)
I'd done the previous update using the online HTTP method and I do not think that updates the bootstrap.

The default password now works and it has reverted to ssh port 22.
However it is a shame I get "Can't overwrite "ethaddr" when I attempt to change the MAC.

Any way around that?

Sorry, i think you can't do that via ssh.

I suspect the MAC is stored in an OTP location and can not be changed at all.

I think all is possible. But i don't have test it yet.

This works on linux, but i'm not sure if it works that on mag, and if it works, what effects will it have on the operation of the mag.

I do not think the eth0 down cmd works as when I send the new mac I just get
"ifconfig: SIOCSIFHWADDR: Device or resource busy"

and when I check the mac address again it has not changed.

However, I found the fix! :)

Unfortunately, this must be a soft, non-persistant, mac change as when I look in the Network Info of the box it is still showing the original mac.
And after a reboot the original mac is re-instated fully. :(

"su" and "sudo" do not work. This are the only Busybox cmds allowed:-

Code:
Built-in commands:
------------------
. : [ [[ alias bg break cd chdir command continue echo eval exec
exit export false fg getopts hash help jobs kill let local printf
pwd read readonly return set shift source test times trap true
type ulimit umask unalias unset wait

Any other ideas to change the mac?

I've found the file where the mac address is stored.
It is here

I've chmod 777 and attempted to edit the contents to change the address with vi but this is unsuccessful and it just reverts to the original value.
As I posted earlier I think the mac is hardcoded and cannot be changed :(

However, I'll keep trying!

It seems the MAC address is read from hardware by the bootloader and this is crippled to prevent the MAC being changed.
However, apparently the bootstrap file can be edited to unlock this feature. Unfortunately, that is beyond my ability. :(

Is anyone here able to do this? Even a disassembly of the bootstrap would be a start!
