Has anyone encountered any issues with Virgin Customers?

Got issues with our service effecting only Virgin Customers, got them to turn off Web Safe and the relevant settings in the super hub settings but still getting complaints of buffering.

The minute that end user switches on VPN, the buffering disappears and it's watchable.

Was something that only started around 3 weeks ago and really strange as it's only effecting the one's on VM.

it's called "shapping traffic"
only can be fixed by VPN on client side

It’s not. Virgin media have not traffic shaped in many years as it was abolished. There is issues with the firmware which I have posted above.

Let me guess it started around about when the UK football season started?
The majority of UK ISP's were issued with a court order to try and block the illegal football streams being shown by IPTV providers. Virgin implemented it by looking for bandwidth spikes and then throttling that particular sections.

yes exatcly that mate, 6 big providors were on the court order including virgin media. VPN simple fix.

Its all to do with the blocks, There either blocking or just throttling peoples service when they see spikes and badwich go up, Sure you will only notice it when the Prem league is on and when its not it will work how it should. Simple fix VPN.

The virgin system namely the hubs is buggy as he'll.
It often requires frequent reboots on the hub3 as it slows speed and WiFi down to a crawl until rebooted.

If you look further into the logs you will see that there are a lot of failed locks and timeout errors.

I've been with virgin many many years since telewest and blueyonder days.

I also have a good friend who is an engineer for them who mentioned that all their networks are overloaded on purpose as they dont have enough infrastructure so what they do is all new customers go onto the "top tap" at the cab. And all existing are moved down.

When you complain about speed issues after the usual hoo ha of sending signals and reboot. An engineer will come out and visit the cab to fix.
All he does is move you back up to the top tap. Which gives full beans on the line.
And the cycle continues.

Because the infrastructure is overloaded it causes a bottleneck on their network. Just like having 3 or 4 network switches on you own lan can cause a bottleneck.

Obviously this is aside from the fact that virgin do isp block the epl and do religiously.

Virgin Internet in itself is great the hubs let the service doen massively and its been the same since it switched to virgin.

In the older days of blueyonder ntl and telewest you were only supplied with a modem.

Out of interest which model asus did you buy?

Its the way their actual block works. For some reason as far as I'm aware

I tested it with another service that was blocked and one that wasn't.

And got the results you were mentioning above.

It also only seemed to be virgin

it seems more of a disruption block than a full block.

Think about it full block you know vpn
Disruption like that is harder to figure out to start with and also for then customer.

Quite clever but not stone nailed blocked like the cour order states

Get a VPN.

Anyone running TV services over the web, my question is why ARENT you securing it with a VPN?

Simple it protects 1. YOU and 2. Provider.

Cat and mouse and right now the Cat had some power. VPN then puts the power back into the mouse and away we go again until next time!.

Problem with vpns well what I've found anyway is all the servers are overloaded and a lot of user don't have enough speed on their home Internet to take a hit from a vpn.

Not all cause a drop in speec but most do.
