Interface configuration (ifconfig) is a command line utility tool used to configure network interfaces in Unix and Linux operating systems.
In most of the newly installed Linux systems if you tried to view your network configurations using the “ifconfig” command you’ll be prompted with an error as shown in the below screenshot.

Command ‘ifconfig’ not found error in Ubuntu

This is a simple guide to fix ifconfig command not found in the Linux operating system.

To fix ifconfig command not found, just install the net-tools package on your system. To install net-tools, open terminal and type

$ sudo apt-get install net-tools

Then type the admin password to start the net-tools installation process.
When the net-tools installation has finished successfully, type ifconfig to test whether it works or not. Now, it must work perfectly without any issue.

lintut@localhost:~$ ifconfig
eth0: flags=4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500

TX packets 6146 bytes 2548511 (2.5 MB)

That’s all, hope you get to fix the ifocnfig command error quickly. Try to comment us in case of any issue. We will help you fix it as soon as possible.
