Hey everyone! 👋

I’m new to the forum and currently setting up my first IPTV test server to get a better feel for the setup process.

I’ve been going through a bunch of threads over the past few days, but I still have a few questions before I dive deeper:

  • What kind of VPS would you recommend for testing purposes — mainly for livestreams and possibly some VOD content?
  • Does anyone here offer a test restream, trial line, or something similar just to play around and test configurations?
  • What’s a realistic monthly cost to expect at the beginning (server + panel + restream, etc.)?

I’m mainly looking to learn how the setup works — panel configuration, stream stability, maybe some basic transcoding and DRM later on.

Appreciate any input or recommendations you guys can share! 🙌

Hi there, welcome to the forum.

You say you are doing a test server, i assume you mean running a panel for your content and then also having live streams pass through that also?

If i was you, i wouldn't spend money online for testing, i would make your own uuntu 22 server on your home computer.

Do it through WSL and then in the windows store install ubuntu 22, from there you will have a test system for downloading and configuring your panel such as XUI.One

Personally, I like running a aingle server for my main panel then I have 2 servers with 20tb of space on each, one for my movies and one for my series.

Like I say, if you are just getting used to it all. I wouldn't be paying for a setup of a vps or whatever else. My panel just for my config is a 256gb RAM with 32cpu which is overkill but I like the fact I have alot of flexibility for later down the line.

I run docker with portainer, then with portainer installed i run nzbget with other platforms to auto download and upload to my main server using watch folders.

To serve this to my customers, i have my own custom iptv smarters with DNS functionality for adding my own DNS i have set up to my host of my panel.

Good luck with it but i wouldn't start off paying if you are just doing some playing about etc.

I wouldnt suggest a VPS for testing because it' just not powerful enough. Unless you want to just test the panel.
Shoot me a DM, I can help you out with most stuff. I can throw you a test line and panel setup

If it's for testing, use Hetzner, it's cheaper, and if you're just going to test it, prices start at 30 euros.

I would do the same tbh, we all have to start somewhere, just so happens I done trial and error but nice of you to throw a test line out there, this is what should happen we are all here to help out each other.

For non-production testing, you can probably get an affordable server from Hetzner like someone already said, specifically their auction servers, or maybe ServerRoom or AlexHost. Something cheap, but don't get a server that can't handle your stack. The testing server really just needs to handle your test connection, so shouldn't need much bandwidth.
