- Nanoserver. This is a new option that can be used when installing the operating system. It can be managed remotely and is optimized for data centers and private clouds. It can be used as a device for machines with Hyper-V, DNS server, storage for scalability, web server with IIS or device for cloud applications.
- Containers Hyper-V container handling is feasible with a Hyper-V role installed. They can be implemented in both core and graphics. Among the system requirements for it to work, you need: 4GB of RAM, Server 2016, a processor with Intel VT-X and a host container with 2 virtual processors.
- Security It allows to “shield” virtual machines and offers a “device guardian” service for greater data security.
- Sysinternals tools. It includes them to help the server administrator solve problems in the data center environment. Among the utilities, there is for example Disk2vhd, which gives the administrator the opportunity to convert an image of the operating system of the hard disk into a virtual hard disk.
- PowerShell skills. It includes them thanks to a PowerShell FTP script, the administrator can use Windows .NET to move files, create a Web Client object and transmit the credentials to enter the FTP server. It also allows the administrator to manage NTFS permissions and control user access to a folder through the File System Security PoweShell Module.
- Storage Spaces Direct. This feature allows you to create high availability storage with DAS, disks connected directly to each node in a cluster, using the SMB3 protocol.
- Microsoft Passport. This service replaces passwords with a two-factor authentication: Enrolled Device and a Biometric test (Windows Hello) or a PIN, resulting in a security improvement in user logins.
- Storage Replica. It will allow replicating volumes at the block level, synchronously or asynchronously.
- Windows Defender. In this edition of Windows Server, Windows Defender is present, although the interface is not installed by default.
- Improved update for Hyper-V clusters and storage. It allows you to add Windows 2016 nodes to a 2012 R2 cluster, operating in Windows Server 2012 R2 mode until all nodes have been updated.
